1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will be a victim of domestic abuse at some point during their lifetime.

Domestic abuse is all about power and control.  A perpetrator abusing victims physically, mentally, sexually and financially.  Anyone can be a victim and anyone can be  perpetrator.  Domestic abuse knows no boundaries.

I feel that victims of domestic abuse are hugely let down by our so called Justice System and until this is completely changed, then domestic abuse will continue to be a world wide epidemic.  Our children, young people and the next generation will fall victims to domestic abuse, no matter how much awareness we raise because perpetrators are not given enough corporal punishment in order for them not to continue being perpetrators.  This is where victims are not getting any closure on what they have endured and where perpetrators are allowed to carry on regardless.

The Justice System needs to change in order to help victims speak out & to stop perpetrators from thinking domestic abuse is acceptable

I am a survivor of domestic abuse now supporting others and raising domestic abuse awareness.   I have my own online domestic abuse support group on Facebook which has over 800 members worldwide who I support when and as they need it via Facebook chat, email or texting.

The domestic abuse cycle is the same for everyone; domestic abuse knows no boundaries, for this reason all the work I do is on a voluntary basis and not for monetary gain.  I feel that raising awareness is paramount!  Awareness is key.  Awareness is power.  Awareness can save a life.  And that to me is important!

As a society, we need to work together by offering victims support, aftercare and justice in order to show perpetrators that we are not going to put up with domestic abuse any more.
